Factors that hinder HCPs from promoting PA have remained understudied so far. Using a qualitative approach, this study aimed at a comprehensive description of influencing factors for HCPs' PA promotion behaviour and at identifying the reasons and mechanisms behind them. Semi-structured interviews with 30 HCPs were undertaken with a focus on concerns, patient characteristics and structural factors. Answers were analysed using thematic analysis. Results revealed that HCPs had concerns regarding a physical overexertion and psychological stress for patients with cancer. A patient's physical condition and the assumed interest in PA, often derived from former PA, turned out to be the most crucial patient characteristics influencing if PA is addressed. Structural factors relevant for PA promotion pertained to in-house structures, HCPs' workload, timing and coordination, information material for HCPs and patients and availability of exercise programs. In conclusion, this study revealed undetected concerns of HCPs and underlined the relevance of patient characteristics and structural conditions for HCPs' PA promotion towards patients with cancer. A broader perspective is needed to assess these factors in their influence on HCPs' PA promotion. 000136732 536__ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF3-317$$a317 - Translational cancer research (POF3-317)$$cPOF3-317$$fPOF III$$x0 000136732 588__ $$aDataset connected to CrossRef, PubMed, 000136732 7001_ $$aGabrian, Martina$$b1 000136732 7001_ $$aUngar, Nadine$$b2 000136732 7001_ $$aJooß, Stefan$$b3 000136732 7001_ $$aWiskemann, Joachim$$b4 000136732 7001_ $$aSieverding, Monika$$b5 000136732 7001_ $$0P:(DE-He78)a0c2037d9054be26907a05ae520d5756$$aSteindorf, Karen$$b6$$eLast author$$udkfz 000136732 773__ $$0PERI:(DE-600)2020234-9$$a10.1111/ecc.12853$$gVol. 27, no. 4, p. e12853 -$$n4$$pe12853$$tEuropean journal of cancer care$$v27$$x0961-5423$$y2018 000136732 909CO $$ooai:inrepo02.dkfz.de:136732$$pVDB 000136732 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588b)2036810-0$$6P:(DE-He78)6911b891e4f82e142d099f0aa249c37d$$aDeutsches Krebsforschungszentrum$$b0$$kDKFZ 000136732 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588b)2036810-0$$6P:(DE-He78)a0c2037d9054be26907a05ae520d5756$$aDeutsches Krebsforschungszentrum$$b6$$kDKFZ 000136732 9131_ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF3-317$$1G:(DE-HGF)POF3-310$$2G:(DE-HGF)POF3-300$$3G:(DE-HGF)POF3$$4G:(DE-HGF)POF$$aDE-HGF$$bGesundheit$$lKrebsforschung$$vTranslational cancer research$$x0 000136732 9141_ $$y2018 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0200$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bSCOPUS 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0300$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bMedline 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0100$$2StatID$$aJCR$$bEUR J CANCER CARE : 2015 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0600$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bEbsco Academic Search 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0030$$2StatID$$aPeer Review$$bASC 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0199$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bThomson Reuters Master Journal List 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0111$$2StatID$$aWoS$$bScience Citation Index Expanded 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0150$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bWeb of Science Core Collection 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0130$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bSocial Sciences Citation Index 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1180$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bCurrent Contents - Social and Behavioral Sciences 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1110$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bCurrent Contents - Clinical Medicine 000136732 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)9900$$2StatID$$aIF < 5 000136732 9201_ $$0I:(DE-He78)G210-20160331$$kG210$$lBewegung, Präventionsforschung und Krebs$$x0 000136732 980__ $$ajournal 000136732 980__ $$aVDB 000136732 980__ $$aI:(DE-He78)G210-20160331 000136732 980__ $$aUNRESTRICTED
