It is less clear whether this differs between postmenopausal women ever diagnosed with breast cancer and unaffected women.Women diagnosed with breast cancer and unaffected women of comparable age were recruited from 2002 to 2005 and followed up until 2020. Using baseline information, a lifestyle adherence score (range 0-8; categorized as low [0-3.74], moderate [3.75-4.74], and high [≥4.75]) was created based on the 2018 World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) cancer prevention recommendations. Cox regression and competing risks analysis were used to analyze the association of adherence to WCRF/AICR lifestyle recommendations with overall mortality and with death due to cardiovascular diseases and cancer, respectively.A total of 8584 women were included (2785 with breast cancer and 5799 without). With a median follow-up of 16.1 years there were 2006 total deaths. Among the deaths of known causes (98.6%), 445 were cardiovascular-related and 1004 were cancer-related. The average lifestyle score was 4.2. There was no differential effect of lifestyle score by case-control status on mortality. After adjusting for covariates, moderate (hazard ratio [HR], 0.66; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.57-0.76) and high (HR, 0.54; 95% CI, 0.47-0.63) adherence to WCRF/AICR lifestyle recommendations were significantly associated with a decrease in overall mortality. Similarly, in competing risks analysis, moderate and high adherence were associated with decreased mortality from cardiovascular diseases and from cancer.A healthy lifestyle can substantially reduce mortality risk in women. With low adherence to all WCRF/AICR guidelines in about a third of study participants, health interventions are warranted. 000285363 536__ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF4-313$$a313 - Krebsrisikofaktoren und Prävention (POF4-313)$$cPOF4-313$$fPOF IV$$x0 000285363 588__ $$aDataset connected to CrossRef, PubMed, , Journals: inrepo02.dkfz.de 000285363 650_7 $$2Other$$abreast cancer 000285363 650_7 $$2Other$$acompeting risks 000285363 650_7 $$2Other$$adietary habits 000285363 650_7 $$2Other$$ahealth behaviors 000285363 650_7 $$2Other$$aphysical activity 000285363 650_7 $$2Other$$asurvival 000285363 650_7 $$2Other$$atobacco use 000285363 7001_ $$aOrban, Ester$$b1 000285363 7001_ $$aOzga, Ann-Kathrin$$b2 000285363 7001_ $$00000-0003-3274-7216$$aMöhl, Annika$$b3 000285363 7001_ $$0P:(DE-He78)6b04712f3afe72044d496a25505cb1ea$$aBehrens, Sabine$$b4$$udkfz 000285363 7001_ $$aHolleczek, Bernd$$b5 000285363 7001_ $$aBecher, Heiko$$b6 000285363 7001_ $$aObi, Nadia$$b7 000285363 7001_ $$0P:(DE-He78)c259d6cc99edf5c7bc7ce22c7f87c253$$aChang-Claude, Jenny$$b8$$eLast author$$udkfz 000285363 773__ $$0PERI:(DE-600)1479932-7$$a10.1002/cncr.35104$$gp. cncr.35104$$n5$$p781-791$$tCancer$$v130$$x0008-543X$$y2024 000285363 909CO $$ooai:inrepo02.dkfz.de:285363$$pVDB 000285363 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588b)2036810-0$$6P:(DE-He78)6b04712f3afe72044d496a25505cb1ea$$aDeutsches Krebsforschungszentrum$$b4$$kDKFZ 000285363 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588b)2036810-0$$6P:(DE-He78)c259d6cc99edf5c7bc7ce22c7f87c253$$aDeutsches Krebsforschungszentrum$$b8$$kDKFZ 000285363 9131_ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF4-313$$1G:(DE-HGF)POF4-310$$2G:(DE-HGF)POF4-300$$3G:(DE-HGF)POF4$$4G:(DE-HGF)POF$$aDE-HGF$$bGesundheit$$lKrebsforschung$$vKrebsrisikofaktoren und Prävention$$x0 000285363 9141_ $$y2023 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)3001$$2StatID$$aDEAL Wiley$$d2023-10-21$$wger 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0200$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bSCOPUS$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0300$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bMedline$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0199$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bClarivate Analytics Master Journal List$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1050$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bBIOSIS Previews$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0113$$2StatID$$aWoS$$bScience Citation Index Expanded$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0150$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bWeb of Science Core Collection$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1030$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bCurrent Contents - Life Sciences$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1190$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bBiological Abstracts$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0160$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bEssential Science Indicators$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1110$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bCurrent Contents - Clinical Medicine$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0100$$2StatID$$aJCR$$bCANCER-AM CANCER SOC : 2022$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0600$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bEbsco Academic Search$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0030$$2StatID$$aPeer Review$$bASC$$d2023-10-21 000285363 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)9905$$2StatID$$aIF >= 5$$bCANCER-AM CANCER SOC : 2022$$d2023-10-21 000285363 9202_ $$0I:(DE-He78)C020-20160331$$kC020$$lC020 Epidemiologie von Krebs$$x0 000285363 9201_ $$0I:(DE-He78)C020-20160331$$kC020$$lC020 Epidemiologie von Krebs$$x0 000285363 980__ $$ajournal 000285363 980__ $$aVDB 000285363 980__ $$aI:(DE-He78)C020-20160331 000285363 980__ $$aUNRESTRICTED
