The database includes 2393 patients (1725 women, 668 men) from for a high-volume center for bariatric surgery. Demographic, perioperative and follow-up data were retrospectively analyzed. Men had a significantly higher body mass index (BMI) and more frequent obesity-associated diseases. Despite the higher prevalence of obesity in men, women accounted for 80% of the surgical patients. On average men had longer operation times but with the same complication rates. Postoperatively, both sexes experienced a significant reduction in excess body weight, which was slightly more pronounced in women. The study particularly emphasizes the need to better motivate men to undergo obesity treatment in order to reduce the health consequences of morbid obesity in this population group. 000292131 536__ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF4-311$$a311 - Zellbiologie und Tumorbiologie (POF4-311)$$cPOF4-311$$fPOF IV$$x0 000292131 588__ $$aDataset connected to CrossRef, PubMed, , Journals: inrepo02.dkfz.de 000292131 650_7 $$2Other$$aBariatric surgery 000292131 650_7 $$2Other$$aComorbidities 000292131 650_7 $$2Other$$aMen 000292131 650_7 $$2Other$$aWeight loss 000292131 650_7 $$2Other$$aWomen 000292131 7001_ $$0P:(DE-He78)3cd8a9939d0a75acabca280ecc5ff77a$$aPozek, Ema$$b1$$udkfz 000292131 7001_ $$0P:(DE-He78)743a4a82daab55306a2c88b9f6bf8c2f$$aHielscher, Thomas$$b2$$udkfz 000292131 7001_ $$aReißfelder, Christoph$$b3 000292131 7001_ $$aStier, Christine$$b4 000292131 7001_ $$aOtto, Mirko$$b5 000292131 7001_ $$0P:(DE-He78)a9d57fe3333789705a9ceb9ca904e83e$$aSchölch, Sebastian$$b6$$eLast author$$udkfz 000292131 773__ $$0PERI:(DE-600)3120893-9$$a10.1007/s00104-024-02149-z$$n9$$p 721–729$$tDie Chirurgie$$v95$$x2731-6971$$y2024 000292131 8564_ $$uhttps://inrepo02.dkfz.de/record/292131/files/s00104-024-02149-z.pdf 000292131 8564_ $$uhttps://inrepo02.dkfz.de/record/292131/files/s00104-024-02149-z.pdf?subformat=pdfa$$xpdfa 000292131 909CO $$ooai:inrepo02.dkfz.de:292131$$pVDB 000292131 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588b)2036810-0$$6P:(DE-He78)3cd8a9939d0a75acabca280ecc5ff77a$$aDeutsches Krebsforschungszentrum$$b1$$kDKFZ 000292131 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588b)2036810-0$$6P:(DE-He78)743a4a82daab55306a2c88b9f6bf8c2f$$aDeutsches Krebsforschungszentrum$$b2$$kDKFZ 000292131 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588b)2036810-0$$6P:(DE-He78)a9d57fe3333789705a9ceb9ca904e83e$$aDeutsches Krebsforschungszentrum$$b6$$kDKFZ 000292131 9131_ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF4-311$$1G:(DE-HGF)POF4-310$$2G:(DE-HGF)POF4-300$$3G:(DE-HGF)POF4$$4G:(DE-HGF)POF$$aDE-HGF$$bGesundheit$$lKrebsforschung$$vZellbiologie und Tumorbiologie$$x0 000292131 9141_ $$y2024 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)3002$$2StatID$$aDEAL Springer$$d2023-08-25$$wger 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)3002$$2StatID$$aDEAL Springer$$d2023-08-25$$wger 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0200$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bSCOPUS$$d2023-08-25 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0300$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bMedline$$d2023-08-25 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0199$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bClarivate Analytics Master Journal List$$d2023-08-25 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0113$$2StatID$$aWoS$$bScience Citation Index Expanded$$d2023-08-25 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0150$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bWeb of Science Core Collection$$d2023-08-25 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0160$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bEssential Science Indicators$$d2023-08-25 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1110$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bCurrent Contents - Clinical Medicine$$d2023-08-25 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0100$$2StatID$$aJCR$$bCHIRURGIE : 2022$$d2023-08-25 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0600$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bEbsco Academic Search$$d2023-08-25 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0030$$2StatID$$aPeer Review$$bASC$$d2023-08-25 000292131 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)9900$$2StatID$$aIF < 5$$d2023-08-25 000292131 9202_ $$0I:(DE-He78)A430-20160331$$kA430$$lNWG-KKE Translationale Chirurgische Onkologie$$x0 000292131 9201_ $$0I:(DE-He78)C060-20160331$$kC060$$lC060 Biostatistik$$x0 000292131 9201_ $$0I:(DE-He78)A430-20160331$$kA430$$lNWG-KKE Translationale Chirurgische Onkologie$$x1 000292131 980__ $$ajournal 000292131 980__ $$aVDB 000292131 980__ $$aI:(DE-He78)C060-20160331 000292131 980__ $$aI:(DE-He78)A430-20160331 000292131 980__ $$aUNRESTRICTED
