LUNG CANCER FACT SHEET

 ;  ;  ;

2020

 GO

Abstract: This fact sheet provides epidemiology statistics as well as information on the economic burden of lung cancer in Germany. Epidemiology figures have been constructed from records of the German Centre for Cancer Registry Data (ZfKD) at the Robert Koch Institute. The ZfKD was established with the Federal Cancer Registry Cancer Data Act of 2009 (Bundesgesetzblatt, 2009), and since 2011, it has been compiling cancer epidemiology data from every regional cancer registry on an annual basis. By 2014, ZfKD cancer records have been estimated to cover 93 percent of all cancer illness cases in Germany (RKI, 2018). Economic burden of disease numbers have been collected from relevant lung cancer cost studies with a focus on Germany, as well as from reports and statistics provided by public entities (i.e., grey literature), specifically the Federal Statistical Office, the Global Burden of Disease Network, and the health insurance company Barmer. Relevant lung cancer cost studies were selected with a predefined framework after a rapid literature review was performed using PubMed, Econ Lit and Google Scholar.
