Abstract: Tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T cells with a tissue-resident memory phenotype have been described in both mice and humans. In this issue of Immunity, Green et al. provide a detailed analysis of the transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of these cells in relation to bona fide tissue-resident and exhausted T cells found in acutely resolving and chronic viral infections.
